11/3/04Speaking my mind, part 2
In the wake of yesterday's election I have had a realization that I wish to share with my fellow citizens. It has occurred to me that the election process could be greatly improved upon by implementing the following policy. All political commercials should be screened in advance by some non-partisan agency or agencies such as factcheck.org in order to establish the truth of its statements. If indeed the airwaves belong to the public, We The People should demand no less. Freedom of speech does not allow one to fraudulently yell "Fire!" in a theater because to do so could unduly disturb or threaten the existence of others. How much more harm does the spreading of demonstrably false claims in political ads? I am convinced that if the idea outlined above were in place during the election that we just experienced, today we would have a different president.

Speaking my mind
Until now I have limited my comments on this page to musical subjects because that is why I started this website.
However, I do reserve the right to say whatever I like and thus the following editorial.
Some folks may think that anyone in America who identifies themself as a Christian would probably support President Bush in the upcoming election. Just so you know, here's one that will vote for John Kerry because I believe that Mr. Bush does not exhibit the fruits of Christian belief in any significant way. Also, I find the policies of his administration deplorably wrong-headed in almost every single one of their activities that I know of.
Perhaps I am wrong but my father fought in two wars in order to win the right for me to be free to speak out.
I don't expect to change anyone's mind but I would encourage you to pay close attention and look beyond the headlines and TV sound bites to find the truth.
Having said all of that, I need to add that I don't believe the answers to the problems of humanity will ever be solved by politics or governments.
