6/7/05New Band's First Show
The benefit we played for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society last Thursday at the Blue Lamp in Sacramento went well. The proprietor liked us and will have us back. Jackie Greene dropped in and played 4 or 5 songs with us.
4/11/05Redirection
Nick has brought in two pros to be the new rhythm section. Johnny Avila on drums and and Donna Smith on bass have been playing together for a long time and add a wonderful flavor and solidity to my music. It was a hard decision to make but I think it's the right one.
2/28/05Okay, now what?
The benefit concert Saturday night went well. We had a mixed crowd of people from different parts of my life; church, school, family, friends, Greeneheads. It was fun. Now I just need to figure out how to proceed from here. I think we'll be taking the band to Marilyn's and/or the Blue Lamp in Sacramento first.
1/31/05Harmony
Yesterday afternoon me and the boys tried out our new line-up at Marilyn's. The afternoon started out kinda slow and easy with Rick doing a nice job of following me on some cover tunes. Later Nick showed up and we played "the set" of my songs that we've practiced. It went really well and I was particularly pleased when Rick jumped in with the 3rd harmony part during "Anna Lee." He has a fine voice and knows how to use it. I look forward to working up some of Rick's songs with the band. Nick also did a great job on guitar and vocals. Looks like we may keep him there and find someone else to play drums.
1/19/05Onward and upward
It's official. Jackie has informed me that my replacement on bass has been found.
Not sure exactly what I'm gonna do next but I am sure that God has blessed me tremendously
and that He will continue to do so as I look for the best way to pursue my music.
I want to take a minute to thank all of the Jackie Greene fans who have expressed their appreciation
and support to me over the past 2 years and 8 months. Your enthusiasm and love mean a lot to me.
Hopefully, there will be other opportunities in the future for me to enjoy your company again.
1/18/05Jakob's calling
The gig at the Little Fox in Redwood City seemed unusually excellent to me.
Mostly for musical reasons but the vibe was also great.
A lady named Sujata told me to have Jackie's management send Jakob Dylan a
DVD through proper channels 'cause he wants to check it out.
Who knows what Bob's son wants, if anything, but I'm thinking this can't be bad for business.
1/13/05Words of Wisdom
One of the greatest pleasures of my travels with Jackie Greene has been the opportunity to converse with some muiscians I admire very much. Here are two little gems that I gleaned in conversation.
Both are things that I believe and already knew but hearing them play back in my mind in the emphatic voices quoted below has had impact on me.
"Everything we do is recorded."
- Solomon Burke
"If you want people to hear what you preach about you have to be that guy."
- Carlos Santana
