Speak out against the madness

Went out to walk a lap around the California capitol this morning with an anonymous Iraq vet against the war.
I wonder how many of you know that G. Bush Senior is on the board of directors for the Carlyle Group,
one of the largest weapons makers in the world and parent company to Halliburton.
Does our president have a vested interest in endless fear and war? You bet.
Or do you think the money they are making will be donated to the widows and orphans of the WTC murders
or those in Iraq or Afghanistan? Me neither.

Noted peace activist Cindy Sheehan is said to be hanging it up this morning because people
in America care more about American Idol than how many more have to die for greed's sake.
Since I am living a few blocks from the capitol, I plan to get out there and march and play
my guitar and sing every chance I get. May not be much but it beats American Idol.

On another note, a free download of the following original song from the new cd I am working on is available
below the lyrics. That's me on all instruments with my ol' pal "Chip" playing a little computer-generated
high-hat percussion.

She Threw Away The Silver

Eighteen years of marriage
Twenty years of love
Three children from our bodies
Gifts from up above

Boxes filled with garbage
Stacked in our garage
Bitter unforgiveness
My beloved's heart corsage

And I see all so plainly
Through the eyes of loss
She threw away the silver
And hung on to the dross

Well I don't know where she's headed
But it isn't looking good
She's off now with her boyfriend
'Stead of being home like she should

And she'll end up with nothin'
No children little cash
I don't know why she's traded
All her gold for ash

But I see all so plainly
Through these eyes of loss
She threw away the silver
And hung on to the dross

She hung on to the dross

Great Expectations

The new album is coming along really well. (I know no one says "album" anymore but I'm Old School ; -)
Today I am paying the sweet and talented engineer David Houston for a 40 hour block of time
to get it done soon. It will include the songs "Zoe" and my bride's favorite, "Surprise", although she's sadly given it new meaning.

Last night I caught Jackie Greene's little brother, Alex Nelson, at Old Ironsides in Sac playing with his band Walking Spanish.
When he recognized me even without my long hair I was surprised. He said it was the shirt. (Tie dyed sleeveless with peace sign!) Funny lad.
The boy is massively talented and extremely charming to boot. Swami Hendernanda predicts he's going places.

Got Jackie's ace drummer, Bruce Spencer (affectionately known as "Uncle Bruce", 'cause he's old enough to be my brother), in on drums.
At the risk of sounding immodest, I have to say it sounds splendid.

  Peace,

Back from Maui

Here are some pics of my recent trip to Maui in search of peace. Thank God I found it. I feel much better now.
There is a shot from my room at the swanky Lahaina Shores Beach Resort.

Mahalo for your prayers. Me and Anthony Dallago are atop the 10,000 foot Haleakelah volcano. We played music together in a band called Tranquillion in high school.
Haven't seen each other in 25 years. He's a sweet Christian man and we had a blast in my Mustang convertable rental.

No that's not Keith Richards but just me in my pirate disguise.

Jackie Greene comes to the studio for a cameo on my new CD

Here the rough mix from David Houston's studio of Anna Lee. (right click and Save As)
That's me on all instruments but organ and tamborine (David) and drums (Pete Philis) and Jackie on harmony vocals.   Hence
