HOW DID YOU GET THE NAME?

...The New Montgomery Pearls are named for the original Montgomery Pearls
who were a gospel/blues group from Alabama in the late 1940s. My uncle
was in the Merchant Marine during World War Two and he brought me a 78rpm of
their song "A Home For The Blues" which just blew me away with its harmonies
and gritty reality.

WHOS IN THE BAND?

...The band is composed of me and the best musicians Im able to round up
when theres a gig or its time to record. Guys just like Hence Phillips and
his family and friends when Im lucky.

DO YOU HAVE A CD OUT YET?

...We hope to have a CD out in the spring or summer. It may have a theme,
like a gospel album or a blues album or it might be more of a sampler with
differnt kinds of songs.

WHAT DO YOU DO IN THE BAND?

...Im more like Leiber and Stoller than anything. That is, I like writing. You might say its more like an on-going musical project than a band.
and arranging songs more than performing.

WHERE DID THE BAND THE GET ITS START?

...We started out in Lompoc, California during the 90s at a place called The
South Side. Lompoc is a hard-edged, blue-collar town on the central coast of
California. Its the kind of place that Tom Waits would mention in a song.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PLAY?

...The kind Gram Parsons called Cosmic American Music, i.e., a blend of
country, blues and gospel.
